Portal Placement/Linking Formula

Each block in the Wilds counts for 12 blocks in the Overworld. Here are formulas for you to reference when figuring out where to build your portals:

In the Overworld: Get the Overworld coordinates of your desired portal location (hit F3 on your keyboard while in-game) and DIVIDE the X and Z coordinates by 12. That will be the location of the portal in the Wilds.

In the Wilds: Inverse of the above - grab the coordinates of your portal in the Wilds and MULTIPLY the X and Z coordinates by 12; this is where your Overworld portal should be.

Height: You can choose at what height your portals will be (aka the Y axis), but note the rules on building materials and portal spacing.

Portal Spacing

On the Wilds side, portals must be 100 blocks radius away from each other. You will not be able to link a portal from the Overworld to The Wilds if it's too close to another Wilds portal.

Portal Construction

Shape: The portal frame must be a complete square or rectangle; it can't be a circle or an irregular shape. Also, it doesn't necessarily need to be a vertical frame - you can get creative with it, but keep in mind that you'll need to go both IN and OUT of the portal. Account for things like gravity and feel free to experiment.

Material: The frame must be constructed out of Jungle Log or Jungle Wood blocks, with the exception of areas like the floor, which may need to be dirt or grass in order to meet the Contents requirement.

Contents: There must be some kind of natural/organic material within the portal frame. This can be tall grass, flowers, ferns, sugarcane, etc., but keep in mind you'll still need to be able to move through it, so you can't use things like leaves.

Caveat: Portals will not function properly if you move through them too fast - this is really only an issue if you're FALLING into a portal.

Build Both Portals Yourself

Note that you must build BOTH portals (in the Overworld and in the Wilds) before they can be linked. They must be built according to the portal rules, otherwise they cannot be linked.

Walkthrough

  1. Scout out the portal locations in both dimensions, using the formulas above
  2. Confirm the Wilds portal location is valid (ask an admin to check this)
  3. Build portals in both dimensions, in accordance with the portal rules
  4. Ask an admin to review the two portals and then link them

Linkage & Protection

An admin will link the portals after making sure they're valid. Once linked, the portals themselves will be protected and thus cannot be broken by anyone, yourself included. If you would like to make changes, you will need to ask an admin to first unlink and unprotect the portals.

Also note that while the portals will be protected, nothing outside of them will. Once you're in the Wilds, anything can happen.
